We can miss opportunities to help others who are suffering. When we let other things get in the way or distract us, we often wind up confused and disappointed. Lesson focus: God should be the most important part of our lives. God calls his people to show mercy and fight against suffering in this life by serving the poor. Ultimately, those who follow Jesus will escape judgement, but we must also pay careful attention to what Jesus says about the danger of being rich. We want to emphasize the importance of putting God first in our lives and being open handed toward others who are in need. Rich people will be accountable to God, especially when they ignore the suffering of their neighbors. We suggest focusing on the larger point Jesus’ was making about compassion. ![]() While hell is biblical, but the point is not to frighten listeners or confuse young children. The rich man and Lazarus can be including imagery of after-life torment. When teaching children, this Bible story can be challenging.
